Tenía entendido qué el drag era generado en mayor medida por la disposición radical de los radiadores (estos se habían colocado en vertical). Quizá hayan modificado para este Gp la disposición y ahora prueben la solución de escapes (original o evolucionada) para ver como se comporta el coche. Pero vamos, estoy visualizando los primeros libres, sin escapes nuevos y depresión colectiva insaid...

Un poco de gasolina/especulación: Red Bull could still lose Monaco win Published on June 3, 2012 by Mat Coch in Feature, Formula One, Politics, Technical ![]() The FIA’s reinterpretation of the technical regulations surrounding holes in the floor has caused a stir in recent days. The reigning double world champions had interpreted the regulations in a manner which meant it could effectively direct air under the car to increase downforce. It was a design the FIA saw and initially deemed legal, though admitting it was a clever interpretation of the regulations. That interpretation, it has since been revealed, was taking advantage of regulations which did not expressly forbid the presence of a hole in the floor ahead of the rear wings. It wasn’t in the spirit of the rules, but as McLaren’s Technical Director Paddy Lowe said some weeks ago, there is no such thing. In most sporting categories the rules are written in such a way that unless it’s stated that you can, it’s to be assumed that you can’t. Formula One, the beast that it is, does not adhere to this standard practice, which goes a long way to encouraging designers to exploit loopholes. Rival teams caught on to what Red Bull had done and threatened to protest in Monaco. Those protests never happened, thankfully, and instead the matter was pursued behind closed doors. It saved a lot of red faces and uncertainty as a protest post-race is never especially welcome. Instead as we head in to Canada we know who won in Monaco and we know what Red Bull must do to comply with the regulations, it’s a much tidier outcome. Discussions among the sports Technical Working Group took place on the Monday after the Moanco Grand Prix and eventually resulted in the FIA sending a clarification to teams on Friday night, accepting the technical arguments presented by Red Bull’s rivals. The note means Red Bull will be forced to change its car for the Canadian Grand Prix, though no penalties will be applied to the Milton Keynes squad. It’s not the first time the FIA has been forced to clarify an interpretation of the regulations mid-season, without applying penalties as a result. Winding the clock back to 2003 the sport’s governing body clarified how the tread width of tyres would be measured. This had an impact to Michelin shod teams, which had benefitted from an exaggerated contact patch on the front tyres. Effectively the ruling declared the 2003 Michelin rubber illegal, though nothing came of it and things quietly changed for 2004. The latest ruling means Mark Webber’s Monaco win and that of Sebastian Vettel in Bahrain will remain safe, at least for the moment. Since breaking the story yesterday a source has confirmed to this writer that it is possible, as the sport reaches a climax, the results could be protested. Should Red Bull be leading the championship by a handful of points heading in to the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix it not beyond the realm of possibility that a protest could be submitted against the Monaco and Bahrain results. Teams are able to protest previous results until the end of the championship year, and while such a protest seems incredibly unlikely, it is worth noting the possibility. There are millions of dollars at stake, and Formula One has a history of shooting itself in the foot for reasons of self-interest. Red Bull’s results are therefore safe, but only for the moment. It could be almost six months before an official protest is lodged. |

Es lo que se decía, que el diseño de los radiadores bloqueaba el flujo de aire en los pontones provocando el drag. Además como se supone que en el diseño original de Ferrari el aire caliente de los pontones salía rodeando los gases de escape (supongo que dirigiéndolos y manteniéndolos más o menos laminares y energéticos) ahí podía estar parte del problema por el que no funcionaron bien: no es que produjeran drag...es que la misma razón que provocaba el drag hacía que no funcionaran como es debido. A mí me gustaría mucho que volvieran a la configuración original porque me parece una de las que les puede dar más carga y además veo muy complicado que se la copien los otros equipos si llega a funcionar bien. Pero bueno...creo que Ferrari no ha dicho nada oficialmente, no voy a esperar nada porque lo diga alguien en Twitter. | |

Los hay muy buenos ![]() Aunque en el último quizá habría que poner "We will give Lewis a penalty". Tiene cojones que hagan coñas con las penalizaciones de Hamilton y no se acuerdan de los "No vamos a penalizarlo pero a partir de ahora no se puede hacer". Habría que verlos si le metieran penalizaciones como la de Alonso en Monza 2006 o la de Silverstone 2010

Fernando Alonso says Montreal will be 'crucial indicator' for Ferrari's title bid Fernando Alonso believes this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix could reveal whether Ferrari will be competitive enough to sustain its world championship challenge for the rest of the 2012 Formula 1 season. Alonso currently holds a three-point lead over Red Bull drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber in the standings despite Ferrari having started the season a long way off the pace following a troubled winter build-up. The Spaniard won the wet Malaysian GP, and also took podium finishes in Spain and Monaco. Ferrari has admitted that traction and top speed were among its early weak points, and as both are essential for Montreal pace, Alonso thinks this weekend will reveal whether the F2012 has improved sufficiently. "I think we have improved the car in these areas since the beginning of the season and Canada will be a good test in this respect," he said. "Hopefully this weekend we will see a competitive Ferrari and that will be very important for us, not just for this race but also for the rest of the season." Alonso said his current expectation was that Ferrari would be encouraged by its Montreal form. It's hard to say in advance, as this season has been so unpredictable with ups and downs for everyone over the course of six races," he said. "However, I don't see any reason why Ferrari should not be competitive in Canada, fighting for the top places come the end of the race." The double world champion added that he was not letting his current points lead deceive him, as he still believes Ferrari has ground to make up on-track. "Leading the championship is only the beginning, it's a starting point, because the ultimate target is leading the championship after the final race in Brazil in November," said Alonso. "It's a long championship and the first six races brought us enough points to be in the lead, but we are well aware that we have to improve. "We need to make the car faster, working hard, while making no mistakes and finding consistency, which is not the easiest thing to do in this championship." |
