SM Prototypes and Panhard Citroën Maserati

Above and right, far closer to the production cars, this prototype is fitted with a massive airduct and over sized tyres and was also used for anti-roll suspension tests.
The injection system air intakes protrude through a cut-out in the bonnet (a temporary solution). The engine was enlarged to three litres and fitted with 24 valves, it developed an astonishing 380 bhp and offered a top speed in excess of 300 kph.
It was proposed to market a version of this car called the SM Sport.
The incredible Panhard Citroën Maserati

In 1970, the Bureau d'Etudes constructed a prototype which could have led to the moribund name of Panhard being revived.
A steel chassis, similar in concept to that of the 2 CV was fitted with a Maserati V 6 of 2 670 cm3 capacity offering 240 bhp.
The front of the chassis carried the hydropneumatic suspension from the SM and on top of it was mounted a lengthened and widened Panhard 24 body.
This vehicle was also employed to study "...a number of parameters such as the mechanical and hydraulic disposition of body roll and dynamic correction of attitude."

Above and below Robert Opron's 1966 styling sketches for the forthcoming SMAbove and below models of Opron's proposalRight Giret's proposal for the dash featured a "Quartic" steering wheel not unlike that fitted to early BMC AllegrosAbove, above right and right considerable importance was paid to aerodynamics and a one fifth scale model was tested in Citroën's wind tunnel. Good aerodynamics were necessary if the car, equipped with a relatively small 2.7 litre engine (French tax rules penalised anything larger than 2.8 litres) were to have the 130 mph/210 kph plus performance demanded.
An SM mule was equipped with a 4 litre V8 Maserati engine which was intended for the Quattroporte.

Este coche tuvo ilustres y famosos propietarios de entre los cuales, cabe destacar, al futbolista y entrenador Johan Cruyff, el periodista Jay Leno y los actores Lee Majors y Lorne Greene entre otros.

Ya se cayó de la lista uno de los Hnos. Calatrava que tenía uno azul.

Es cierto eso que dicen que las válvulas del motor son muy frágiles? Que si lo usas mucho, malo, y si lo usas poco, peor.

Este coche tiene las válvulas huecas y rellenas de sodio, por lo que si el coche está mucho tiempo parado, hay riesgo de rotura del vástago de la válvula.

Se soluciona cambiandola por otras sólidas.

es que de vez en cuando veo en la tele el presidente frances en algun desfile y me parece que sigue disfrutando de una limusina antigua, pero no me he fijado en que modelo exactamente, pero seguro que como maximo es un cx u otro mas moderno.

que bonito el sm!pero el xm..puf..hubo uno en casa de la primera serie del 91 y se llevo todo el odio de la familia yo creo..se fue al desguace con 86000km..
