17 de abril- Long Beach
1 de mayo - San Pablo
29 de mayo - Indianapolis
11 de junio - Texas
19 de junio - Milwaukee
25 de junio - Iowa
10 de julio - Toronto
24 de julio - Edmonton
7 de agosto - Mid-Ohio
14 de agosto - New Hampshire

o- Ganassi: Dixon y Franchitti seguramente permanezcan.

Abril - a determinar

INDYCAR: KV Closing In On New Lotus Deal
“The main thing going with KV Racing right now is we’re finalizing a long-term agreement with Lotus," KV Racing co-owner Jimmy Vasser tells SPEED.com
Marshall Pruett | Posted November 10, 2010

KV Racing's ambitious plans to expand its IZOD IndyCar Series program fell short of expectations in 2010, but that hasn’t stopped the team from reaching for new heights in 2011 and beyond.

The crash-prone tendencies of the three KV drivers—ex-F1 driver and IndyCar rookie Takuma Sato, Venezuelan journeyman E.J. Viso and the promising young Brazilian, Mario Moraes—left team owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser with a massive pile of repair bills and few results to show for their efforts.

With a trying season behind him, Vasser told SPEED.com the most positive aspect of the season proved to be the growing relationship between KV and Lotus Cars. Sato undoubtedly struggled to in the No. 7 Lotus-sponsored Dallara-Honda Indy car this year, but the Malaysian-owned car company is apparently ready to commit to the Indianapolis, IN.-based team for the next few years.

“The main thing going with KV Racing right now is we’re finalizing a long-term agreement with Lotus, Vasser said. “We had the one Lotus-branded car this past season with Takuma Sato and we’re in the process of branding the whole team as Lotus/KV. We should have that done in the next few weeks. Then we’re going to go forward from there.”

KV found success fielding a two-car effort in Champ Car before the series went bankrupt in 2008, forcing Kalkhoven and Vasser scrambling to find the funding to compete with a single entry in the IndyCar Series.

Their rebuilding efforts continued in 2009 as the team expanded to two full-time cars and a part-time entry for Paul Tracy at select rounds. For 2010, and with the prospect of having three fully funded drivers to help restore the team to its former glory, the owners, mechanics and drivers went into the season with lofty expectations.

Despite the trying—if not downright grueling—year they endured, Vasser said KV’s first goal is to keep the 2010 roster intact. Proving that 2010 was a fluke—an aberration—is high on the priority list for Vasser and his drivers.

“Our primary goal is to keep all of the guys intact, to do three cars like we did this year and to have the same drivers back as well. There are also some free agents that are running around right now that are quite interesting, but Takuma can’t wait to get back to all of the tracks and show what he can do with a year of experience. He learned a lot of lessons the hard way, but a lot of guys do. He was getting down on himself, but a lot of those crashes came when he was in fifth or third. We can work with that. The speed is there. The capability is there.

“E.J. and Mario were also really fast and competitive at times this year. Mario is probably the fastest of the three, but he’s like a young race horse. We’re still trying to harness all of his talent to become the top driver we know he can be. I think Viso is similar to Mario that way, too. It might have seemed like everything was negative to the outside world this year, but if we get these guys on the same page, the potential is there. I don’t know if I can keep all of them together next year, but some combination of them along with Tracy will be our racing team.”

As much as Vasser would like to go out and hire any of the available drivers on the free-agent market, he admits that it will take a little while longer before KV has the financial flexibility to do so. Until that happens, he and Kalkhoven will be seeking the most talented drivers who can also add to KV’s bottom line.

“The Lotus component will grow each year—it’s very incentive-based—and it also includes a lot of additional technical support which will help us with a lot of performance-based stuff that will have a big impact next year. But it isn’t a huge dollar deal that would allow us to go out and do whatever we want in 2011—to hire whoever we wanted.

“Having paying drivers these days isn’t so much a bad thing like it was thought of before. It’s becoming pretty common everywhere, even if it’s not much money a guy can bring. Who wouldn’t want to be able to go and hire everyone on your shopping list, but who says you can’t sign a driver who has just as much talent and also brings some [sponsorship] to the team?”

Signing Sato, Viso and Moraes is KV’s goal, but even with the ‘we need to prove to ourselves and to others that we’re better than what we showed in 2010’ sentiment behind getting the band back together, Vasser says the team will continue to closely monitor the driver market.

“For the final call on drivers, we’re waiting for a few balls to drop. We’re waiting to see what’s going on with Graham (Rahal), Tony (Kanaan), Justin Wilson; Dan Wheldon is out there and we’re already working with Paul Tracy for next year.

The last two years we’ve done a partial schedule with PT but we are trying to get the commercial side in order to do a full season with him. I think he’d be a big influence on the other guys if they had him around all year to learn from.

“The Edmonton [race cancellation] hurts because they were a part of Paul’s program, but we’re still working hard there. We also have the Indy-only deal with SH Racing and expect to announce that driver in January. There’s no news there, but we’ll start talking to guys like [Oriol] Servia and a few others to see who’s available and who’s the best fit for Indy.”

The last element of KV’s plans for 2011 will please the many fans of the retro Lotus paint scheme the team used this season. While it remains unclear whether Lotus would take over the complete liveries of KV’s three Indy cars next year, Vasser says people should expect to see a greater variety of visuals that draw from Lotus’ rich history in Formula One and Indy Car racing.

“You’ll see some historic liveries next year; John Player Special colors, the Camel Lotus yellow, the British Racing Green and some other cool stuff. The fans really connected to the car’s colors this year, and the racing push by Lotus in IndyCar will really line up with the launch of Lotus’ new road cars in 2012. Everything is coming together nicely and I think the fans will be really happy to see our cars when they hit the track.”

MISC

• Graham Rahal expects to formally announce his 2011 plans within the next 10 days.

• Panther Racing expects to name its 2011 driver after conducting a small “gong show” test in the middle of December. Based on who is awarded the drive in the No. 4 National Guard car, the choice to stay with one entry or to try and move forward with a second full-time entry will likely me made. A scenario where Ed Carpenter contests all of the ovals while a road course specialist contests the road/street events makes the most sense, allowing the team to play to the strengths of each driver while gaining a second entry for all 17 rounds.

• HVM Racing is hoping to have Simona De Silvestro’s funding for 2011 completed “within the next few weeks” according to team boss Keith Wiggins. Adding a second full-time entry for next season is still a priority, but provided an additional Indycar program comes to fruition, it would be for a paying driver. Wiggins also continues to actively pursue an auto manufacturer to partner with HVM for an American Le Mans LMP1 program.

Next Rumor around Indy is that FIAT will announce an engine in the coming weeks. Alfa branding? Ferrari aero? Oooooo. More excitement
Justin Wilson is to remain put at dreyer and reinbold racing.
Chevrolet was confirmed to return to U.S. open-wheel racing today, giving the Izod IndyCar Series two auto manufacturers for the 2012 season.

Honda has been IndyCar's lone engine provider since Chevrolet left the series after the 2005 season.

Chevrolet will badge an Ilmor-built engine that fits IndyCar's new specifications. Its will be a twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V6 engine.

The other key to the story is that Chevrolet arrives due to the help of Roger Penske, whose team will align with the manufacturer. Penske, who owns part of Ilmor, brought Chevrolet to the sport in 1986.

Team Penske won't be a factory team, however. Tony Cotman, who is writing IndyCar's rules for engines and aerodynamic kits that will be mounted to the Dallara-built chassis, said the sport can't afford to let one team have such an advantage.

Therefore, all engines, regardless of manufacturer, will be randomly distributed to the customers.

"There's no 'works' team, no special (engines), everybody must have the same thing," Cotman said today at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum, site of the announcement. "There's going to be a lot more control from the series than there's been in the past."

IndyCar is due to finalize its engine rules by the end of the month. A meeting with team owners is set for Wednesday in Indianapolis

March 27 - St. Pete
April 10 - Barber
April 17 - Long Beach
May 27 - Indianápolis (¿viernes en vez de sábado?)
June 19 - Milwaukee
June 25 - Iowa
July 10 - Toronto
August 7 - Trois-Rivières
August 14 - New Hampshire
September 4 - Baltimore
October 2 - Kentucky
October 16 - Las Vegas, Fontana o ninguno

http://indycar.com/news/show/55-izod...ms-with-lotus/

LOS ANGELES – Lotus Group CEO Dany Behar was not satisfied putting a Lotus sticker on an IZOD IndyCar Series car and not having a say in the car's design
So Behar and Lotus will take on Chevrolet and Honda in 2012 with an engine and aero kit designed in-house by the British car manufacturer
With Lotus' display at the Los Angeles Auto Show as a backdrop, Lotus announced it would be the third automobile manufacturer to join the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2012, This will be the first time Lotus has produced an engine for IndyCar competition and gives the IZOD IndyCar Series manufacturer representation from the U.S. (Chevrolet), Europe (Lotus) and Asia (Honda).
"We want to really fight and compete with the big guys," Behar said. "But we have a Lotus way to do things. We always try to understand what we are getting into. That's why we started this year with a very small activity with Takuma Sato with one car to understand IndyCar racing and to see whether there was an opportunity for us to become a real contender.
"We made the brave decision, yes, this is where we want to be. We believe in the series. We believe the series is developing very, very well. I think it fits perfectly very well our activities and strategies in the U.S., which is our biggest market"
Lotus will release engine specifications at a later date.
"What we tried to do with the Lotus brand is to pay our heritage and our past justice. I believe our heritage is all about motor racing. As you could see, this is all about motor racing. We believe that our road car should have a significant connection with the motorsports program. That's why we have also announced recently we will be going and racing in LeMans, GT2, GT4 car racing, obviously IndyCar."
Lotus, Chevrolet and Honda engines will power the new IndyCar Safety Cell that is being developed by Dallara Automobili with input from current drivers and team principals. The platform allows for the design and implementation of aero kits around the rolling chassis. Dallara officials broke ground on the Indianapolis production facility Nov. 16.
“Lotus is a renowned name in racing, with a long association with some of the greatest names of motorsports,” said Randy Bernard, CEO of INDYCAR. “We’re honored Lotus has chosen to serve as an engine manufacturer for the first time with us.
“We are excited about the future of Indy car racing with the addition of Chevrolet and Lotus as well as the continued involvement of our longtime engine supplier Honda. The IZOD IndyCar Series has the fastest, most versatile cars and drivers in the world, and now we have engine competition to provide even more excitement for our fans.”
Lotus, based in Norfolk, England, has competed in a variety of motorsports disciplines since the legendary Colin Chapman founded the company in 1952, including Indy car racing, Formula One and sports cars. Jim Clark drove a Lotus chassis to victory in the 1965 Indianapolis 500, and Lotus sponsored the KV Racing Technology car driven by rookie Takuma Sato in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series.
“The history and DNA of Lotus is all about extracting the most performance out of a car in return for maximum efficiency, and we are delighted to offer our engine and aero body kit to the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series,” said Claudio Berro, Director of Lotus Motorsport. “We will be using the knowledge gained from our extensive research into E85 biofuel and turbo-charged engines to ensure we extract the maximum performance.
“As you would expect from the company that pioneered aerodynamics in sports car and F1 racing over the years our aero body kit will also be a world class solution, So all in all, will the 2012 Lotus IndyCar will be as innovative and revolutionary as the Lotus Type 38 that won in 1965 and changed Indy forever? Maybe – we’ll have to wait and see!”
The IZOD IndyCar Series announced in June that that its next generation of engines would be more powerful and efficient than the current formula – along with being relevant to the public and automobile industry.
The 2012 platform allows manufacturers to produce engines with a maximum of six cylinders. The engines will be turbo charged producing between 550 and 700 horsepower to suit the diverse set of tracks on which the IZOD IndyCar Series competes. All engines will run on E85 with additional details on the fuel platform to be announced at a later date.
The new engine strategy was based on a recommendation from the ICONIC (Innovative, Open-Wheel, New, Industry-Relevant, Cost-Effective) Advisory Committee, which was tasked with reviewing, researching and making a recommendation to the sanctioning body on the next generation IZOD IndyCar Series engine and chassis.
Committee members include Brian Barnhart, Tony Cotman, Gil de Ferran, Eddie Gossage, Rick Long, Tony Purnell and Neil Ressler. It was mediated by retired Air Force Gen. William R. Looney III.

Newman/Haas tests Servia, Hinchcliffe

By Matt Beer Wednesday, December 1st 2010, 16:41 GMT

Oriol ServiaOriol Servia will return to his former team Newman/Haas for a test at Sebring later this month, alongside Indy Lights front-runner James Hinchcliffe.

The duo will both be in action for the multiple Champ Car title-winning team on 13-14 December.

Servia drove for Newman/Haas in the second half of the 2005 Champ Car season after Bruno Junqueira suffered back injuries at the Indianapolis 500. The Spaniard's win in Montreal during that stint was his sole America single-seater victory so far. He also made a brief return to Newman/Haas to replace Robert Doornbos in late-2009.

"I am obviously very excited, not only to be back in a race car but to be back in a Newman/Haas car," said Servia, who has not had an IndyCar seat since his last Newman/Haas appearance.

"Every time I have driven a Newman/Haas car we have been able to make improvements and deliver results. They have some of the best engineers and the team members are among the hardest working in the sport. It's the situation every driver wants; to just focus on making improvements with the car."

Hinchcliffe's Newman/Haas run will be his first IndyCar test. The 23-year-old Canadian was second in Indy Lights this season.

James Hinchcliffe"I can't express how excited I am to get my first test in an Indycar," said Hinchcliffe. "I grew up watching Indycars and always dreamed of one day driving one so this really is a dream come true.

"And to get my first taste of this car with a team the calibre of Newman/Haas Racing is really special. Their record speaks for itself and to get to work with them is a real privilege. It will certainly help me tackle the job of getting up to speed. I want to thank the Haas for this incredible opportunity.

"For sure this test is just the first step for me toward racing full time in the IZOD IndyCar Series. I will simply try to learn as much as I can and do the best job possible for the team."

The team described the test as "preparation for the 2011 IndyCar Series season." Newman/Haas ran Hideki Mutoh in 2010, plus a second car for Graham Rahal in a partial programme.
