Comments / History

Of the 15 official factory-built 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competiziones, only the Series I cars (i.e. the first five), were alloy-bodied. Furthermore, only four of the five Series I alloy-bodied have a competition history as Serial No. 14429 was built for Dr. Paolo Mariani as a hot rod for the road. (Dr. Mariani received this car as a friend of the factory.)

The alloy-bodied Series I cars weigh 1,230 kilos (2,706 lbs), while the heavier Series II and Series III steel-bodied cars weigh 1,447 kilos (3,184 lbs). This puts the Series I Comp. cars at about 478 lbs (i.e. 217 Kilos to be exact) less than their later (steel) counterparts!!! By comparison, a normal road-going 365 GTB/4 Daytona weighs approximately 1,633 kilos (3,592 lbs).

Just prior to the 1973 season, NART arranged for Serial No. 14889 to be upgraded to Series III specification (i.e. the power output has increased from the 402 bhp Series I level to 450 bhp, the body received wider wheel arches, and the chassis received 9J x 15 front wheels and 11J x 15 rear wheels (with wider tires) vs the 8J x 15 front wheels and 9J x 15 rear wheels that were standard issue on the Series I variants). Therefore, this car is the best of both worlds (i.e. it has the light weight of the Series I alloy cars and the big horsepower of the Series III units). The disadvantage of the Series II and Series III steel cars is their much heavier weight which cannot be realistically reduced short of building a non-original alloy body, whereas increasing the power output of the Series I alloy cars to Series III levels isn't/wasn't such a monumental task.

Finally, the rear decklid of the car has cutouts for dual fuel fillers which lead to the aftermarket modern fuel cell. The owner of the car had this decklid specially made. Of course, the car also comes with its original alloy rear decklid containing a cutout for a single fuel filler, etc.

The car was cosmetically restored by the renowned restorer Bob Smith of Gainesville, Texas. The engine was rebuilt just a couple of years ago, and has accumulated 200 miles at most. The rest of the mechanicals were also painstakingly restored by professionals.

Perdon, pero es lo unico k no m gusta del coche, ese trozo azul del asiento, no le pega nada. Lo demas, no comment, se m cae la babilla.
