The next-generation Lexus LS will remain the company’s flagship but become “more emotional”, according to the company’s European boss Alain Uyttenhoven.

Speaking to Autocar, Uyttenhoven said: “The LS will remain the pinnacle of the range and have the highest price point.”

He also denied rumours that the luxury saloon was going to adopt a Porsche Panamera-style liftback: “You have to understand how our customers use these cars. In the US if they want to carry things they also have a pick-up and in China most of them are driven, while they sit in the back.”

Uyttenhoven refused to be drawn on the details of what is meant by “more emotional”, but it’s likely to include more distinct styling for the next LS.

“It’s not good for the brand to have ‘Russian doll’ styling,” he said. “We’re not chasing market share so we need to make cars that people notice, cars that polarise opinion so that people love them or don’t like them. We also need to trade on Japanese differentiation, design and attention to detail.”

Following the successful introduction of the new Audi Q5-rivalling Lexus NX to Europe it’s likely that the company will expand its SUV portfolio too. An all-new, larger, RX is due next year, although it’s likely to remain as a five-seater.

There’s also the possibility of a smaller model. designed to compete with the Mercedes GLA and BMW X1, though the business case would have to stand up.

“We could go smaller,” Uyttenhoven admitted. “It could make sense for the brand. Though we will never chase volume at any cost.”

The current iteration Lexus LS – which starts from £71,995 in the UK – has been on sale since 2007, and the replacement is slated to arrive in 2016.

A replacement for Lexus' LS flagship sedan is currently under development and should be ready for launch in about two year's time, a new report finds.

Lexus' current LS is starting to get a little long in the tooth, but it won't be too long before a replacement is on the market. According to Motor Trend, Lexus is prepping its next-generation LS for a 2016 market launch as a 2017 model year.

Throughout its existence the LS has been a luxury cruiser along the lines of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but that will reportedly change for the next iteration of the Lexus range-topper. Instead, Lexus will aim toward the sportier end of the market, with vehicles like the Jaguar XJ and Porsche Panamera in the LS' crosshairs.

To that end, the LS' base engine will be bumped form a 4.6L V8 to a more powerful 5.0L V8. The 2017 LS range will also finally see the addition of a high-performance F model. The LS F is expected to use a twin-turbocharged version of the 5.0L V8 good for 600 horsepower.
Naturally, Lexus will continue to offer a hybrid version of the LS. However, look for the gas-electric sedan to boast much better fuel economy numbers.

It might be a couple years until we see the production version of the 2017 LS, but expect Lexus to trot out a concept version sometime during the upcoming auto show season.

The current Lexus LS flagship sedan has been with us since the 2007 model year. It was given a major update for 2013 that will see the car up to the end of its life, expected to be the 2016 model year. The good news is that a new generation of the LS is planned for the 2017 model year, and according to Motor Trend it will be unlike any previous generation of the car.

While the previous LS sedans have targeted stately sedans like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus insiders say the next version will target the sportier end of the segment, comprised of models like the Jaguar XJ, Porsche Panamera and perhaps even a new offering from Infiniti. This means we could be looking at a new four-door coupe for the 2017 Lexus LS.

And the new car should have the performance to back up its shapely form. The base model is expected to be powered by a version of Lexus’ new 5.0-liter V-8 debuting in the 2015 RC F. A new LS H model will also be offered, powered by a V-6-based hybrid setup, and at the top of the range should sit an LS F complete with a twin-turbocharged version of the base model’s V-8 good for 600 horses.

According to the same Motor Trend report, this three-tiered powertrain lineup will also be offered in a production version of the stunning Lexus LF-LC coupe concept, the new SC. The new SC is also expected to arrive for the 2017 model year and will share its platform with the new LS.

OH and he mentioned that the 2017 LS is insane and its been designed to go head to head with the S Class. Its coming with a twin turbo V6 and the best bit? Price reduction by 30% or so in the UK for the base model.

First customer deliveries are coming in 2016 so expect to start seeing pictures, specs etc on the web in winter 2015

Lexus has shown off the first teaser image previewing the look of the concept car it is showing at the Tokyo motor show next week.

The concept is said to “capture the company’s vision of progressive luxury” and Autocar understands the concept will preview the next-generation LS saloon. It will be revealed at the press day of the show, on 28 October. It's known that Lexus wants to mark 25 years of sales with a landmark launch at the show.

The new LS - a rival to the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class - is eagerly anticipated because it would act as a technology showpiece for the entire Lexus and Toyota ranges, highlighting developments that are drip-feed through to future cars.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the new range-topping saloon from Toyota’s luxury brand will be powered by a V8 hybrid powertrain developing around 535bhp.

A V8-powered LS, without the hybrid system, is tipped to develop around 465bhp.

Lexus’s first car, the LS400, was launched in late 1989 after being revealed at that year’s Detroit motor show. It was reputed to have cost a billion dollars to develop and set new standards of refinement for luxury saloons.

The company’s European boss Alain Uyttenhoven has already said the car will become "more emotional", saying: "The LS will remain the pinnacle of the range and have the highest price point."

Se rumorea que en 2020 habrá una versión LS con motor de hidrógeno listo para las olimpiadas de Tokyo.

2020 LS's FCV is based on Toyota Mirai's FCV, but the range will be reduced from Mirai's 430 miles [700 km] to only 239 miles [385 km].
The LS FCV's performance will be much greater at around 220 kW [295 BHP] compared to the Mirai's 113 kW [152 BHP].

- Communication with All Drivers (Likely only Toyota / Lexus models but maybe universal someday)
- Facial Recognition Identification (Key fob scans your face)
- Remote Parking and Valet
- Driver to Driver Conversation ("Go Ahead" "Thank You")
- Pedestrian Detection Monitoring
- Vehicle Detection Monitoring (Imagine pulling up to a blind intersection quickly with buildings all around and about to floor past a yellow light,. Monitor scans through the building to detect on coming vehicle)
- Temperature & Light Sensitive Roof (panoramic glass that can go from translucent to 'frosted' opaque
