After building sports prototypes for years, Panoz starting developing race versions of their Esperante, a two seat roadster built on an aluminum chassis and powered by Ford's SVT V8. With help from Elan Motorsports, Panoz raced the Esperante with success in the Trans-Am championship and it only made sense to contest it in Don Panoz's own ALMS series. Panoz partnered with Multimatic from Ontario Canada, to release GTLM road-going supercar which provided a basis for the 2004 contender. To cope with the air intake restrictions imposed by the governing bodies, Panoz had Elan Racing bore out the 4.6 liter MOD V8 to 5.0 liters and remove the supercharger. In 2004, the GTLM was tested out on a number of tracks, and the Panoz gave the green light to contest the entire ALMS 2005 season. A highlight victory was achieved at the Road Atlanta where the GTLM of Bill Auberlen and Robin Liddell achieved a first in class over the factory-backed Porsche teams. Due to reliability, the GTLM factory racing team couldn't keep up their Atlanta pace, and fell wayside to Porsche for the rest of the season including their first visit to Lemans. Currently, the upcoming 2006 season couldn't look any more promising for the Panoz team. With strong financial backing from Ford, they have managed to the class record at Sebring during winter testing. MULTIMATIC MOTORSPORTS TEAM PANOZ LIVERY READY TO HIT THE TRACK IN SEBRING TORONTO, ON (March 10th, 2006) Multimatic Motorsports Team Panoz has unveiled its stunning new livery for this year's American Le Mans Series Panoz Esperante assault. The new scheme, designed in-house, hit the track for the first time last week at Road Atlanta as team regulars Scott Maxwell, David Brabham, Gunnar Jeannette and Tom Milner put the two Esperante GT2 entries through their paces in preparation for the upcoming Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The four Multimatic stars will be joined by Newman-Haas Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais and Bruno Junqueira for the season-opening endurance event. Bourdais will team-up with Maxwell and Brabham while Junqueira returns to the track for the first time since suffering injuries at the Indy 500 last year, to drive with Jeannette and Milner. "Testing has gone extremely well and I am very pleased with the progress that the team has made," said Multimatic Vice President and Motorsports Technical Director, Larry Holt. "Taking over the Panoz factory program and incorporating it into our Toronto-based team has been a significant undertaking but everything has run extremely smoothly so far. "Next week when we arrive at Sebring we will see exactly how we are placed relative to the opposition. We are fully aware of the challenge ahead but our intention is to be a serious contender for the championship." To coincide with the unveiling of the new livery, Multimatic Motorsports Team Panoz has launched a new dedicated section on the multimaticmotorsports.com website to focus on its 2006 American Le Mans Series efforts. Multimatic Motorsports Team Panoz has also become one of the first teams to launch its own regular podcast radio show – downloadable from the team website or the Apple iTunes Music Store. "The podcast is great for race fans to be able to catch up with all the behind the scenes news each month," said Multimatic Motorsports Team Panoz driver, Gunnar Jeannette. "For somebody like me who never goes anywhere without my IPod, podcasting is like having your own radio station in your pocket – you can choose what programs you want to listen to – on any subject you like. "This is great for us to be one of the first individual race teams to do this. One of the NASCAR teams has launched a podcast but they only talk to the crew chief. I think we are the first where fans can listen to the drivers, the technical experts and other special guests." Multimatic is a privately held Canadian corporation supplying components, systems and services to the global automotive industry. The company is headquartered in Markham, Ontario, Canada, and has operating divisions in North America and Europe with partners in Asia, South America and Australia. Esteticamente me gustaban mas el Esperante GT1 y el LMP1 aunque este ha ganado en Sebring en la categoria GT2 quedando por delante de Porsche y Ferrari. Me ha sorprendido su rendimiento Saludos! |
